Rubedo (pronounced roo-bed-oh) is a neurodivergent-affirming program for young adults located in Kennebunkport, Maine.
We are a transitional living program helping neurodivergent young adults transition to independence. Our skilled occupational therapists and clinical psychotherapists provide individualized neurodivergent affirming care by focusing on six key areas of functioning: interpersonal growth, independent living skills, professional development, academic & vocational support, health & wellness, & executive functioning. We serve clients with Autism, ADHD, Nonverbal Learning Difference, and other expressions of neurodivergence. Our program welcomes all genders with ages ranging from 18 to 28 years old. Rubedo is an intentionally small owner-operated transitional living program from the founders of Cornerstones of Maine.
Supporting young adults to reach their goals of independence.
To achieve this, we support our clients in their pursuits of everyday activities such as employment, college classes, and community-based goals. By immersing our clients in the real world, we can see the complexities a neurotypical society poses to a neurodivergent mind. This allows us to cultivate the natural strengths which our clients can use to thrive as individuals. Rubedo utilizes a therapeutic milieu. This refers to a shared space where clients live and staff occupy throughout the day. This environment provides our clients with ample opportunity for personal development and growth.
A compassionate and engaged community.
The therapeutic milieu at our program facilitates the development of authentic relationships between clinicians, occupational therapists, and clients. To this end, the Rubedo approach is person-centered. Additionally, the milieu offers the opportunity for intentional and highly skilled staff support when needed. Finally, it provides our staff with an invaluable amount of observational data which we utilize in our conceptualization and treatment planning. Most importantly, our focus on community lends itself to enriching and productive peer interactions which further drive the process of growth.
Neurodivergent affirming at its core.
Over the past decade, we have begun to de-pathologize neurological presentations which we have historically labeled ‘disorders’. This has led to the emerging concept of ‘neuro-affirming’ care. Our approach seeks to maximize adaptation to one’s environment by tempering inherent strengths rather than keeping a deficit-based lens. We don’t believe our clients need to be ‘fixed’. On the contrary, we aid them in discovering compatible settings wherein their differences are adaptive and celebrated.
